I have found (outside of Ireland at least) these fish seem indiscriminate on what they eat, happily taking a Sibiki rig, hard plastic lure (prepare for it to be destroyed), and or strips of mullet. They are extremely aggressive and will take chunks out of each other when you hook one. They destroy hooks as well. Great fight in them.

Nice! Would love to catch one but I've many more easy species to add to my list first. Lifetime total is only 25.
IKAs #1 Butterfish, Chub, 3 and 15 Spined Stickleback Angler. Sure anyone can catch a ferox trout.

we take them while spearfishing too, very tasty fish, but keep your fingers away from them! they bite through everything!

we get them around the Beara Peninsula, depending where the warmer stream is.
