Huss - Ballinskelligs

Post by TimOH »

Photo: This is one of the 3 I landed at the Kerry leg of the 2017 All Ireland Kayak Angling Championships.
Thanks Michael Micka
Thanks Michael Micka
Where: Just at the mouth of the channel between Horse Island and the main land in about 25-27m of water.

When: Saturday 5th August 2017

Bait: Fresh and Frozen Macks

Rigs: Size 5/0 and 8/0 single hooks tied with wire to running ledgers. I'd a mackerel flapper on the 5/0 tied to plain wire and caught one huss. The other 2 were on my conger rig, a mackerel head with one side of the body attached and the spine removed on the 8/0 tied to wire with lumitube and bling.

Tips on Identification: The nostrils as always, if in doubt when on the water take a photo and ask on the forum.
IKAs #1 Butterfish, Chub, 3 and 15 Spined Stickleback Angler. Sure anyone can catch a ferox trout.
